What? I’m a blogger?

Yes.  I am.  As soon as I push the “publish” button I am officially a blogger.  Those that know me are asking, “How in on earth did that happen?”.  The answer to that question is not a short one, it is actually an accumulation of several decisions, events and revelations.

For twenty years I worked in retail grocery.  Eighteen of those years were in management, managing up to 150 employees.  I averaged 65+ hours per week and was tethered to my store by my phone when I wasn’t physically in the building.  For many years my job was very fulfilling, it was very interesting (working with the public always is), I met hundreds of amazing people, and I made a decent living. The career that I chose was not an easy one, but it enabled me to do many things for, and with, my four children and I felt a lot of personal pride and satisfaction in my achievements. Then, after 18 years, the “honeymoon” ended.  My company was involved in a merger and the changes were significant and not to my liking, so after almost two decades of looking forward to going to work, I found myself dreading getting out of bed to face another day.  It took all of my willpower to drag myself in to work and try to maintain a positive attitude.  I was miserable.  After months of enduring this, many heartfelt conversations with my loved ones, and hours of pondering my situation, I quit my six-figure job with only a “loose” plan for my future.

It has been almost two years since I made that decision, one of the best I have ever made.  Since leaving the corporate world I have done so many things that I love. I spent a year watching my four grandchildren, I sold crafts at several craft shows, I have done the costumes for several theater productions, and have been refurbishing our new home.  I currently cashier part-time at the grocery store that is 3.8 (who’s counting) miles from my home and thoroughly enjoy going to work, visiting with great people and then going home and not worrying about my job.

So where does the blogging fit in?  I love people.  I love talking to people.  I want to share all the great things that I have come across, dabbled in, heard about, and done.  I talk to hundreds of people every week and get great tips and ideas while also sharing some of my own.  I am interesting and have a good sense of humor (well I know I crack myself up all the time), and I know a little about a lot of things!

My interests; aka “things I am not definitely not an expert at, but enjoy doing” will be the topics of my future blogs.  I have grouped them into three categories:

Groceries – I love cooking, eating and trying new recipes.  I also love to save money.  I have tried the extreme couponing and it’s not for me, but I am a unextreme couponer and will share any tips that I find.  I speak to hundreds of grocery shoppers each week and have some great stories to share.

Grandkids – My littles are 3, 5, 8 and 10 and I love everything that has to do with them from arts and crafts to discipline ideas.  I am always looking for creative ways to keep them entertained and to stretch their imaginations.

Gobbledygook – I love this word because in my mind it is all-encompassing.  A huge umbrella that covers my hobbies like costuming, thrift shopping, crafting, remodelling and an ever-changing list of others.

I am excited to embark on this journey and I hope that it is one that you will share with me!
